The Lord-Lieutenant is the King's personal representative in the area they live in. Their role includes officiating at events, organising royal visits and nominating people for honours and awards.

In Dumfries and Galloway we have three Lord-Lieutenants representing Dumfriesshire, The Stewartry of Kirkcudbright and Wigtownshire.
