New Vice-Lord-Lieutenant Appointed for Dumfriesshire

14 September 2026

A prominent Dumfriesshire businessman has been appointed as the new Vice-Lord-Lieutenant for Dumfriesshire.

Percy Weatherall succeeds Gordon Dickie in the role, supporting the Lord-Lieutenant of Dumfries, Dr Fiona Armstrong, in carrying out duties on behalf of His Majesty The King across the area.

Percy Weatherall enjoyed a 30-year career with the Hong Kong trading company Jardine Matheson, culminating in his appointment as Managing Director. He currently serves as Chairman of wine merchants Corney and Barrow and the Nith District Salmon Fisheries Board. He is also a member of the Royal Company of Archers, His Majesty The King’s ceremonial Bodyguard in Scotland.

Lord-Lieutenant of Dumfries, Fiona Armstrong, welcomed the appointment. She said:

“The Weatherall family have contributed a great deal to communities across Dumfriesshire over many years and I am delighted that Percy has agreed to take on this important role.

“As Vice-Lord-Lieutenant, Percy will provide invaluable support to the Lieutenancy, assisting at official events and representing the Lieutenancy when I am unable to attend. I know he will be an excellent ambassador for Dumfriesshire and the people who live and work here.”

Percy is married to Clara Weatherall, Chair of The Holywood Trust, the Dumfries and Galloway charity that supports opportunities for young people across the region.

The Vice-Lord-Lieutenant plays a key role in supporting the work of the Lieutenancy, including helping to organise and attend royal visits, supporting citizenship ceremonies, presenting messages from His Majesty to centenarians and recognising the achievements of individuals and organisations through the honours system.
