Two lovely ladies turn 100

Congratulations to two lovely ladies who have been marking a very special event. Both received cards from the King and Queen as they celebrated reaching 100.

Edna Wells is a local legend in Dumfries. She served in the Wrens during the war and has worked with Legion Scotland over many years. Edna was a noted dress maker and is a well-kent face in the town and further afield. Flowers were presented and a cake was cut, with family and friends there to help celebrate the milestone, as were members of Legion Scotland.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Dumfries, Fiona Armstrong, who presented the royal card said: ‘what a special day - and we’re all so proud and happy to be with this very special lady as she marks this very important birthday.’
 

And it must be something in the air of Dumfries and Galloway, because in Sanquhar, Charlotte Forsyth has also been celebrating her 100th birthday. Again, a card came from the palace with a special message from the King and Queen.

Charlotte moved to Sanquhar when she got married. helping her husband to run the butcher’s shop  in the High Street. Forsyth’s meat was greatly sought after, and over the years Charlotte threw herself into community life, helping others and working with the Scottish Women’s Institute. Here she is pictured with the Lord-Lieutenant Fiona Armstrong, who presented the card - and Councillor Jim Dempster.

Fiona said, 'I asked Charlotte what the secret of a long life is, and she told me it was just being happy with a good family…’ Food for thought there and we can report that the birthday girl was in fine form and the cake, made locally, was delicious!
