Global recognition for Lockerbie and District Rotary
Congratulations to Lockerbie and District Rotary whose work in prison rehabilitation has been recognised globally. The President of Rotary International was on a tour of Scotland, and came to see how the Dumfriesshire group is helping out at HM Prison Dumfries. Under the guidance of businessman Bryan Woods, Lockerbie members source wood for use in the prison workshop.
Those serving sentences then make furniture and other items like sheds and planters which are given to local community groups. Rotary’s top lady, Stephanie Urchick, toured the prison gardens and workshop and was greatly impressed by the work being done to try to rehabilitate offenders. The Lord-Lieutenant of Dumfries Fiona Armstrong was present at the visit and echoed those thoughts.
