David Calvert presented with MBE

The oldest continuous brass band in Scotland, it was formed in 1815 to meet soldiers returning from the battle of Waterloo. David joined the band at the age of 12 and his first public engagement was on the day of the late Queen Elizabeth's Coronation in 1953. 

He played for the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong, when he became a Freeman of Langholm and for members of the Royal Family. Together with LTB, he has entertained tens of thousands of people. David was the driving force behind the creation of a Junior Band and has tutored over 100 young people. He is a local legend and well deserves the honour - which was presented to him by the Lord-Lieutenant of Dumfries, Fiona Armstrong. As an added touch, when the medal was pinned on his chest the band opened up with the song 'Congratulations.'
